Building a wooden deck in your backyard is a great way to transform your outdoor living space into a beautiful multi-functional masterpiece. We are experts at creating an outdoor escape for you and your family, and building the deck of your dreams. A beautiful deck is a great place for all of your outdoor entertaining and relaxation. We have many different designs already created, or can create a unique design specifically to match your home architecture and landscape. Multi-level decks, or decks created to enhance your spa are all great options for creating a unique design.

If you have smaller back yard, you may not have the luxury of a sprawling multi-level deck in your patio area, but if you have the space building multi-level decks is trending all across the country. Families are using each level of the deck for different uses. One deck can be used for grilling and cooking, another level used as a dining area, and another possibly for visiting, or used for the spa, hot tub or fire-pit area. There are so many options and the more space you have the more deck area you can build in your new retreat.

Wooden Deck Material

The most popular products used for wooden decks are treated lumber and cedar. We can choose other types of wood for your deck, and the main thoughts to consider are pricing and maintenance.

The advantage of using wood over other man made products for your deck is the cost of wood is pretty inexpensive. If you go with other man-made material for your deck, you could end up spending more for the materials, but the maintenance may not cost as much as maintenance on a wooden deck.

Wood decking is natural, durable, inexpensive, and beautiful.

Deck Maintenance
Continued maintenance of your deck will protect your investment, by prolonging the life of your deck for many years of enjoyment, by protecting your deck and preventing expensive repairs. If possible you should create a continued maintenance schedule to maintain your deck throughout the year.

Take time throughout the year to do the following:

  • Wash
    • to prevent mold and mildew that will eventually cause rot if not removed.
  • Seal
    • to help waterproof the decking
  • Inspect & Repair
    • Look for signs of rot and repair if necessary
    • Inspect the ledger (the most important piece of the deck framing that attaches the deck to the house)
    • Check all joists, posts, and beams
  • Preventative Measures
    • Move pots and planters, deck tables, and chairs to different locations to prevent discoloring
    • Trim nearby bushes, to prevent damage
    • Don’t let leaves and other debris pile up on the deck

Once your deck has been built, you will need to stain and seal it within the first two weeks. From that point on you should at least wash, stain and seal it on an annual basis. You can do it more often if necessary depending on the amount of sun and weather it may endure. Around the six year mark you should give the deck a good striping and sanding prior to adding the stain for that year. Be prepared this will be a big job, and you may want to consider hiring this out to someone else that has experience and the proper tools to get the job done.

As with all maintenance, you can hire it out, or do it yourself. It can be a big job, and something you may not want to do yourself.

We would love to help you with your deck maintenance.
