Sushi Rice

To make sushi rice, you will need:

-1 cup sushi rice

-1 cup water

-1/4 cup rice vinegar

-1 tablespoon sugar

-1 teaspoon salt

Instructions:

1. Rinse the rice in a fine mesh strainer and rinse under cold water until the water runs clear. This helps to remove excess starch from the rice.

2. In a medium saucepan, bring the 1 cup of water to a boil and add the rinsed sushi rice. Stir once, reduce the heat to low and cover with a tight fitting lid. simmer for 18 minutes.

3. Remove from heat and let sit, still covered for an additional 5 minutes. Do not lift the lid while the rice is cooking!

4. In a small bowl, whisk together the vinegar, sugar and salt until the sugar has dissolved. Set aside until ready to use.

5. When the cooking time is up, remove the lid and fluff the rice with a fork or wooden spoon. Transfer to a large bowl or hangiri (a wooden sushi tub). Pour half of the vinegar mixture over the hot rice and gently fold it in with a rubber spatula or wooden spoon being careful not to mash the grains of rice together. Allow Rice To Cool To Room Temperature before using it to make your sushi rolls so that it doesn’t stick together or fall apart easily when you roll it up later on!

Nori

Nori sheets are made from dried laver seaweed that has been pressed into thin sheets and are what traditional sushi rolls are wrapped in.. You can find them at any Asian market or online.. If you cannot find nori sheets, you can use soy paper or even lettuce leaves as substitutes!

Fillings
