Peter was born in Worcester, Massachusetts on September 28th, 1954 to John and Mary Mehegan. He graduated from St. John’s High School in 1972 and then went on to study at the University of Notre Dame, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in 1976.
He later received his Juris Doctor from Boston College Law School in 1979.
After law school, Peter began his career as a trial lawyer at the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office. He then went on to work as an Assistant District Attorney in Middlesex County before eventually joining the private sector.
Throughout his career, Peter handled a number of high-profile cases and was widely respected by his peers.
