What is Izanagi
In Japanese mythology, Izanagi is the creator of Japan and the first ruler of heaven. He is also the father of the gods Amaterasu, Susano-o, and Tsukuyomi. Izanagi’s name literally means “male who invites”.
He and his sister Izanami are considered to be the first humans in existence.
Izanagi and Izanami were tasked with creating the landmass of Japan. To do this, they stood on the Floating Bridge of Heaven and dipped a jeweled spear into the primordial waters below.
When they lifted it back up, drops of water fell from the spearhead and formed into Onogoro Island. The two then descended from heaven to begin their work.
After some time had passed, Izanami gave birth to a deformed child which they named Hiruko (leech-child).
